Jody Ruggiero

Training Consultant

Jody Ruggiero is a school board member in Reno, Nevada, for one of the largest school districts in the country. She is the founder of Tune In To Kids, a community-wide media literacy initiative that delivers its messages to nearly 40,000 households annually. Jody's efforts in the area of media violence have received local and national attention, and she is a frequent guest on local television and radio news programs.

Jody's community organizing activities have provided her with a wealth of knowledge about how to galvanize all segments of the community, resulting in meaningful change. Her experience as a parent, secondary teacher, health educator and school board member gives her a unique perspective on the effects of media on today's students.

Jody's work has been featured at the Annual Conference of the National School Board Association, and for the past three years, she as spoken at the Nevada State PTA Convention. She has presented to students at the University of Nevada Reno and has also partnered with the University to research the effects of television viewing on standardized test scores for at-risk third-graders. She has also presented at the Nevada State Parent Involvement Summit.

Jody's sense of humor and wide variety of experiences give her the unique ability to connect with parents, educators, and policy makers alike. She understands the challenges facing parents and schools today and knows what works-at home, at school and in our communities. Jody lives in Reno and has two grown children (who say they can tell the difference between their peers who grew up on lots of TV and those who didn't!)
