An online encounter with a predator
is every parent's worst nightmare.
As kids turn to the Internet for everything from socializing
to shopping to homework, it is critical that parents
talk with kids about ways to protect themselves from
online crimes and harassment.
There's been a lot of recent attention
around kids getting into trouble with online
predators and stalkers on social networking
sites. In mid-April MySpace.com announced that
it hired its first Online Safety Chief, a former
federal prosecutor who specialized in child
exploitation cases, Hemanshu Nigam. This decision
by MySpace.com to strengthen its security commitment
is a very positive move that will help keep
kids safer.
